It's been awhile since I have written on this blog. Sorry. Life seems to be happening, and I guess that's a good thing!
I turned the big 55 this week. I can now get senior discounts! I think there's something a little weird about being excited about that, but, hey, you take what you can get. If ya have to put up with the aches and pains of age, there better be some kind of consolation prize. :>) I have heard people say, "I've earned these gray hairs, everyone of them." Age brings wisdom. That's a consolation or comfort; knowing I am wiser today than when I first started on this journey.
I took an IQ test tonight and was so thrilled that my IQ was above normal. Whew! Now I can make my sons believe that their mother wasn't an idiot, imbecile, or moron all these years. I really did know what I was talking about when I told them to make sure they had clean underwear on before they left the house each day!!!! LOL!
Now, if I could just convince my husband that I'm as smart as he is, I would be elated. Maybe he'd listen to me better. (No such chance, he's older than I am, and is blessed with most of the tale-tale signs of aging: loss of hair, loss of teeth, loss of hearing, loss of sight....) I think I'll keep him around a little longer though. Whether he knows it or not, he needs me (Who am I kidding? I need him.)
I like old things, antiques, etc. I even like elderly people, they have so much history to share. Have you ever sat down with someone over 70 and just listened to their life's history? It is amazingly wonderful. Young people now days cannot relate to older people because they have never taken the time to listen, to transport themselves back in time to when there were no telephones, soda machines, cars, televisons, computers, .... Our world has a gold mine at it's finger tips -Senior Citizens. If the big wigs in Washingon would have a conference with some of this nations Senior Citizens, those who fought for our freedoms, those who laid the foundations of this country with their blood, sweat, and tears - some of the problems facing this generation could be resolved. Problem is, no one wants to listen to the Seniors. It just wouldn't be cool to go back and do things the way they use to be done. It seems now days, Seniors are to be seen (seldom if possible), and not heard. The disrespect this generation shows to our Senior Citizens is appalling.
I'm convinced - live each moment to it's fullest. Don't hide away behind closed doors and hope that things will be better. Stay involved as long as you have breath. Keep talking and sharing and maybe, just maybe, some youngster will happen to hear and "catch" the dream that once was America, and just maybe they will pass it on to others of this generation in some manner or form. If not many, then hopefully a few. We can always hope. With God, all things are possible.
Yes, I'm the minister's wife...
